1) Our Flush Mount albums can be designed in any software or template program as
long as the final output is a high resolution JPEG (300dpi).
2) Each page or spread in your album should be a separate file. We recommend
that you always design as spreads even when you are ordering cut style albums.
3) Files should be sized exactly for the album size requested. For example,
a 10x10 album should be designed as a 20x10 spread; a 9x12 vertical album should
be designed as an 18x12 spread.
4) All designs should be created with a 3/8-inch safety margin within the design
on the outside edges. We trim approximately 1/16th to 1/4th inch off the finished
books on the three outside edges. Please see the Print Safety Area Instructions
below for more information.
5) If you will be ordering clones, please submit appropriately sized files for both
the original order and the clone order. For instance, if you are ordering
a 12x12 album and a 5x5 clone, we will need 24x12 files for the 12x12 album and
10x5 files for the 5x5 clone. Please note that when scaling down from the
larger size file to a smaller size file the safety margin is reduced, and should
be adjusted accordingly so that the design is not compromised during the final album
trimming.
6) All files need to be created in the sRGB color space at 300 DPI. Please
follow a standard numbering system (i.e., 001, 002, 003 etc.). All image files
must be color corrected and ready for printing.
7) Be sure to include any images that will be needed for cover designs, Photo-wrap
or ImageVue cover options. Be sure when you upload all your files to upload
or email your completed order form; be sure it is filled out completely to avoid
any unnecessary delays.
Caché Albums, Montage Art Books and Art Magazines will be slightly trimmed on the
outer sides of the prints. When designing your album, please allow a 3/8th
of an inch safety margin on the top, bottom and outside edges. You may include
designs/images in these areas, but please keep in mind that some of the design may
be trimmed into, from a minimum of 1/16th of an inch to a maximum of 3/8th of an
inch.
For example, if you are designing a 20x10 spread, set the measurements to be 20x10
and design to the edge, however try to avoid having important design/image elements
such as text, tops of heads, faces, etc in the areas near the outside edges, with
a safety of 3/8th of an inch.
This is an example of an effective design:
There is imagery in the 3/8th safety area, however if it is trimmed into it will
not affect the overall design of the spread. The borders on the smaller images
are not in the 3/8th area so they will not be affected by any trimming.
If you are using Adobe Photoshop to design an album then you may want to set the
guides to be 3/8th of an inch from the outside edges. This is a way to visually
verify that any vital text or imagery is not in the 3/8th safety area.
This is an example of an effective design:
Some of the borders of the smaller images fall into the 3/8th safety area, therefore
they are at risk for being trimmed. This spread would need to be redesigned
so the important design elements do not fall into the 3/8th safety area.
